«EURECAT is the Technology Centre of Catalonia which provides the industrial and business sector with differential technology and advanced expertise and offers solutions to their innovation needs and boosts their competitiveness in a fast-paced environment. It combines the experience of over 450 professionals and generates an annual income of €40M. EURECAT has 2 areas of specialisation, digital and industrial, including robotics and autonomous systems, functional printing, functional textiles, IT-Security, e-health, metals and ceramics, plastics and composites, innovative processes, innovative product development, simulation, sustainability, smart fabrics, Big Data & Data Analytics, multimedia technologies, digital humanities, and smart management systems. EURECAT is involved in several ICT initiatives with different agents of the Innovation Ecosystem, such as the Anella Industrial 4.0, Digital Cluster or Big Data CoE Barcelona, in which the Catalan Government is also involved. EURECAT will lead, coordinate and manage the STIMULI project, and will be in charge of the performance of the Business Plan, as it has been largely involved in the creation of different hubs, centres and tech-based SMEs. EURECAT is willing to take part as a founder in the future STIMULI hub.
BSC is the Spanish supercomputing facility and the most important regional research infrastructure together with ALBA. The Center houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. Its mission is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science under one roof. Currently it has over 350 staff from 41 countries engaged in multidisciplinary scientific collaboration and innovation, and a budget of €25M. BSC is a hosting member of the PRACE distributed supercomputing infrastructure and an active participant in HiPEAC, the ETP4HPC and other international forums such as BDEC. The center develops technologies for Exascale in different projects and has established joint research centers on Exascale with Intel and IBM. BSC’s main role in the project is to define and execute the use cases, as it has collaborated with industry in HPC issues intensively since its creation, and will perform the summer school, as it has direct contact with universities. BSC is also willing to take part as a founder in the future STIMULI hub.
I2CAT is a non-profit technology and innovation centre which promotes R+D+i activities in Internet Technologies within the ICT industry. The centre stands up for a new model in a new conception of innovation: the collaboration between companies, public administration, the academic environment and end-users. I2CAT vision is to achieve Internet excellence in research and innovation activities applied to the market needs, and become an international strategic partner driving the deployment of the Internet across the economic, industrial and social sectors. Some board members are Cisco, Orange, Alcatel, Interoute and Vodafone, 4 Catalan government departments and the 3 main tech universities of Catalonia led by UPC. I2CAT’s main role in the project is to perform the awareness raising activities regarding the establishment of the STIMULI hub and the identification of companies to perform the use cases. I2CAT is also willing to take part as a founder in the future STIMULI hub.»
